What qualifications does the training provide?
As the name of the program indicates, it provides dual qualification:
• professional qualification as a religious education teacher
• teaching qualification for all positions requiring teaching qualifications (for example, day-care teacher or dormitory supervisor/residence hall director)
is the five-year program results in an MA (university degree), which can be obtained in a single course of study following graduation from secondary school.

Is it possible to complete the program as a single major or only paired with a another major offering a teaching certificate?
It is possible to complete the program as a single major or to combine it with another major.
If you wish to become a religious education teacher only, you will receive a higher level (200 credits) of professional training, combined with 100 credits of teacher training at PTE and affiliated primary and secondary schools. The qualification thus obtained is primary- and secondary-school religious education teacher.
Those wishing to obtain a degree in combination with another general studies degree (double major) will receive 100credits of professional training/subject in both majors (if the general studies degree is in secondary school education, 130 credits will be required), and participate in the 100-credit teacher training module.
Which majors may be combined with the teacher education major?
There are currently 13 majors that can be paired with the religious education major:

All forms of teacher training are provided by the PTE Teacher Training Institute.
What is the duration of studies?
The standard period of study for the Bachelor’s degree is 5 years (10 semesters). If you wish to obtain a secondary school teacher qualification in one of the subjects listed above, your studies will be extended by 2 semesters, i.e. 12 semesters in all.
Within this period of study, four years are devoted to theoretical and practical training, the last year of which is spent on site in affiliated schools. If you are a single major, you will participate in a teacher training course in both semesters of the last year (with one semester in a primary school and the other in a secondary school). As a double major, you will be required to complete you religious education teacher practice one semester and teacher practice for your second major in the other semester.
For a split degree, the length of training depends on the entry diploma:
- two semesters (60 credits) for a bachelor’s degree in theology or an MA in theology
- four semesters (120 credits) with any level of public or special education teacher
- five semesters (150 credits) as a teacher, pre-school teacher or vocational teacher
Is it possible to study as a part-time/correspondence student?
If you are in possession of an appropriate entry diploma and wish to study in a split form, you may do so ONLY as a part-time/correspondence student.
Those opting for the five-year program can do so full-time only, as PTE offers the teacher training module to full-time students only. Our college supports students with work or family commitments by allowing them to request an individual timetable for their professional subjects, if justified. In this case, the obligation to attend classes for –courses that conflict with the student’s other commitments can be fulfilled on correspondence consultation days.
How can I apply for a teacher training course?
For single majors, it is sufficient to apply at the College (it is not necessary to submit the application form via the felvi.hu website). Simply fill out the application form and send it to the Department of Academic Affairs office (7625 Pécs, Hunyadi J. u. 11.). The deadline for the regular application procedure is 10 June.
For double majors, applications must be submitted via the felvi.hu website by the normal deadline for applications: 15th February.
What do I need to know about the admissions process?
Those applying for a single major will have their application assessed by our college: applicants will be invited to an interview in the second half of June. The applicant will participate in a motivational interview following a written examination in religious literacy. Candidates will receive notification of their admission within one week.
Candidates for a double major must be admitted to both the theology major and their other, general studies major. To gain admittance to general studies major
• candidates must first sit for an aptitude test at the end of May (for further information, consult the PTE website here)
• and candidate’s entrance exam scores must qualify for the cut-off,
Candidates for the religious education major must take an entrance exam (written + oral) in May. The entrance exam usually takes place on the afternoon of the which is usually organised on the afternoon of the career aptitude exam.
Only candidates whose scores reach the admission threshold for each of the above examinations qualify for admission to our institution.
