What is the aim of the major?
The aim of the major is to provide students with an advanced knowledge of the foundations of theology, enabling them to participate in the ministry of the Church as pastoral workers or catechists.
Courses and practical training related to the field of pastoral care provide theoretical and practical knowledge related to pastoral care. In this way, the major fulfills its aim of training parish pastoral assistants who support the work of pastors by carrying out liturgical tasks at a parish, such as visiting the sick, administering Holy Communion, and performing organisational and administrative duties.
Catechetical courses and practical training in the field of catechetical formation provide students with basic knowledge about their faith and prepare them for teaching the faith: the core curriculum is supplemented by courses in pedagogy and psychology, as well as teaching practice. The aim of this specialisation is to provide those involved in faith formation with a higher level of faith-related knowledge and professional qualifications.
What do I need to know about the major?
The BA in Catechetics and Pastoral Work is a state-recognised college degree providing professional qualification in theology.
This course of study lasts three years (six semesters) and may be completed on a full- or part-time basis, with or without a state scholarship.
What subjects are required for the Catechist-Pastoral Worker degree?
This major condenses theological knowledge into three years. For this reason,
• in the first year, in addition to the foundation and disciplinary courses, the specialised courses are taught
• in the second and third years, students will study both the Old and New Testament and philosophy, and systematic subjects, and will also take the specialisation courses.
The timetable of studies differs depending on whether a student begins his/her studies in an odd or an even year.

- Religious Education and General Education (MA).
- Pastoral Counselling and Organisational Development (MA).
- Theology (Students will receive credits for all courses completed within the Catechist-Pastoral Worker BA program and can graduate with an MA in Theology in 3 years rather than the usual 5.
